Beauty of Ingenuity by Yvonne Bobo, 2021

Beauty of Ingenuity : In Memory of Jan Kirby

Artist: Yvonne Bobo
Installed: 2021

This whimsical sculpture by local artist Yvonne Bobo was inspired by Jan Kirby's lifelong love of nature and 25 years of dedication to the V&E Greenline. Her love of art nourished her inventiveness and diligence toward making the V&E ArtWalk a great success for all of Memphis to enjoy. The artist hopes that this sculpture brings a smile and warm's the hearts of those who knew and loved Jan. May her memory live on in the festivities and lives of the V&E community. The Clematis is a delightful vine with generous blooms that symbolizes the Beauty of Ingenuity. This wild, fuzzy seed moves aloft wind currents to spread the joy of the Clematis.

Big Kids by Rhodes College, 2011

Big Kids

Artist: Rhodes College Public Art Class
Installed: 2011

Big Kids was the brainchild of Rhodes student Graham Smart, who came up with the idea for his public art class. Rhodes professor Ben Butler, who led the public art class, said the sculpture project presented a different type of challenge to students.

Constructed and installed in 2011 by Rhodes College students, the Big Kids sculptures are large and low to the ground. Some are lying propped up on their elbows, others are leaning back on their hands. The statues have flower planters installed in their heads. When the flowers are in full bloom, the sculptures are given a colorful head of hair. Unmarked and unobtrusive, the Big Kids look like any other trail-goer out enjoying the Memphis sunshine.

Fish At Lick Creek

There ARE Fish in Lick Creek

Artist: Jeanne Tomlinson Saltmarsh
Installed: 2013

The sculpture is inspired by the ecosystem of Lick Creek and to bring awareness to the fact that Lick Creek "DOES" have fish swimming in it. It inspires people to stop on the bridge and look for fish.

The collection of kinetic fish - each about 3 feet long - are individually mounted on steel posts creating a floating “school” of trout. Each fish moves easily following the wind. There ARE Fish in Lick Creek was conceived and executed by Tomlinson Saltmarsh who is a local resident and was the winner of MemFeast 2013 presented by Crosstown Arts.

VECA Bike Rack by Suzy Hendrix, 2013

VECA Bike Rack

Artist: Suzy Hendrix
Installed: 2013

Artist Suzy Hendrix created the VECA Bike Rack for the trail. The concept is inspired by local architecture as well as the nature available on the Greenline, hence the leaf shape. The glass is exterior grade glass called "dalle de verre" used in a technique widely found in modernist churches and other buildings.

The steel and glass piece was created and installed in 2013, and was paid for by donations to the V&E Greenline.
